How To Set Great Life Goals

Have you ever wondered how all those successful people got to where they are? I don’t know about you but I have. I would look at people around me and wonder how did they get from where they were to where they are now?

Most successful people have tons of demands set on them and they have to divide their time up. They must have a plan for everyday of their life and this is where goals come in to play. They plan their day down to the minute and that plan is very connected to their goals they have set for themselves. The scripture has a lot to say about goals and planning out our lives.

” Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

The first thing that goes on there calendar is their goals. They block off the time they need first that are things they must do to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. When they block off that time they do not allow things unrelated to that goal to invade that time they have set for that goal. We must be steadfast in that rule. When we set time for a goal we don’t allow other things or people to take away from that goal. Once that block of time is set it becomes non negotiable we don’t change it except for a real life emergency.

” Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there.” Proverbs 16:9 TPT

How to set a life goal

How do we go about setting a life goal? The first thing you want to do is carve out some time to dream about what you want your life to look like when you are in your older years. I know I wish when I was in my teens I had someone to sit down with me and teach me about all this stuff. The Lord will help us and He will direct our plans so they will be what is best for us. We just have to be willing to follow the plan that he has for us and not try and do it ourselves we will always make a mess of things. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

I know my life would look very different than what it does now. I would have set a roadmap to say of my life something I could follow instead of just wondering around doing this and doing that with no end goal in mind. I would not have wasted so much time on things that didn’t add meaning to my life. We don’t think about these things til we are in our 50’s or 60’s then we think a lot about the mistakes we made and the things we didn’t do we wish we would have done.

With these posts I want to teach you how to set great goals so you don’t have a lot of wasted time you could have used to do something that really mattered. so let’s get to work.

First thing we are going to do is set a life goal. What is a life goal you say. This is the goal that sums up our life. The mega big goal that all our other goals are set on. This is a goal set to define who we are, what we do, and who we become. This goal takes a lot of dreaming to create. This is the goal where you say who am I and where do I want to be when I’m in my 50’s or 60’s or 70’s. This goal is the sum of our life. Everything we do in our lifetime is set in line to achieve this goal.

Sometimes this goal will change over the course of our lives so it’s very important to set time aside every year to reflect on our life goals to see if we need to make any changes to them. Sometimes we need to add a life goal and sometimes we will drop off a life goal because it doesn’t fit into our life anymore.

ok, We will use one of my goals as a way of creating an example of how to create this goal.

Here are some things I love to do. I love to write, I love creating lessons, I like to create things to help people grow in their faith and grow as a person. My first question I need to answer is how can I create a life goal out of what I love to do? I can say my goal is to be an author. That is a very vague goal though. I need to break it down so it is something I can measure yearly and monthly and daily.

When I look at the goal of being an author there are so many ways I can take this goal. I want to break it down according to what I love and what I want my life to look like. so let’s break it down.

Life Goal: I want to be a christian blogger and writer. I want to write books and devotionals and blog posts that will help women grow in their faith and grow as a wife and mom.

Ok, here is my goal. This is what I want to be when I grow up. when I am in my late years of life. I want to have achieved this goal by the time I am in my late years. Now that I have a great life goal I can start planning out how I am going to achieve it. We will tackle the next step in goal planning in my next blog post.

I have created a worksheet to help you plan out your life goals remember you can have more than one life goal. You can get it here.
