Ultimate Healing Through Christ’s Redemption
Every healing miracle in scripture points beyond itself. Physical healing is wonderful, but it’s temporary. The ultimate healing is found at the cross, where Christ secured eternal redemption for us all.
By His Wounds We Are Healed
Back in the Old Testament in Isaiah 53:5 it talks about that “by Jesus’ wounds we would be healed. “That was written around 540BC.
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NIV
Isaiah 53 shares a lot with Jesus and what he did on the cross. It is a prophesy that looks forward to Jesus’ coming and what would happen when we did come. Jesus took our sins, our sickness, and all our brokenness on himself. Through his suffering, he brought us complete wholeness and reconciliation back to our Heavenly Father.
Salvation As The Greatest Healing
While physical healing meets a temporary need. Salvation meets our eternal need. Through Christ, we are healed from sins penalty and power. While physical healing is beautiful, temporary, and necessary, the greatest healing we need is reconciliation with God. That is exactly what salvation brings.
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness by his wounds we have been healed” 1 Peter 2:24 NIV
This healing isn’t just about disease, it’s about the wound of sin that separated us from God. Sin corrupts not only our bodies but also our souls and spirits, our relationships, and even creation itself.
” We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.” Romans 8:22-23 NIV
Healing of The Soul
Forgiveness of Sin
Healing our soul is something only God can do. Man is fallen and is corrupt from our very birth. The very first sacrifice was in Genesis 3: 21 CJB
“Adonai, God, made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. ” Genesis 3:21 CJB
This was the first recorded sacrifice in the Bible. Man sinned and God had to kill an animal to cloth them. Jesus came to remove the guilt and sin for us. We could not do it ourselves we had to have a savior. God sent Jesus so that he could offer us salvation and remove the guilt and the condemnation so we could be saved. When we accept Jesus we no longer have the entanglement of sin in our lives. We don’t realize this until we start reading the Word of God for ourselves.
Once we ask Jesus into our hearts everything changes! Yes, we still live in the same house, have the same people in our lives, but as we learn about Jesus we change into the person He created us to be not the same ole person we were before our salvation. The enemy is doing everything he can to keep us in our old life but we have to resist him and walk in the new life God has given us. Most of the time it brings about drastic changes that most people around us do not understand. They like us the way we were because we were in the sinful life just like they are. The enemy will use them to pull us back into our old life style and get us away from God. We must always be on guard for attacks of the enemy.
” Be alert and sober minded. Your enemy the devil prowess around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. ” 1 Peter 5:8 NIV
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 NIV
New Life
At the point of Salvation our lives become something completely new. The old person we were is dead and gone. We are starting a brand new life one that is rooted in Jesus.
” For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. Because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.” Romans 6:6-7 NIV
See we need to remind ourselves and the enemy that old man or woman is completely gone and doesn’t exist any longer. We now have a brand new life and we are grounding ourself in Jesus. Salvation isn’t just wiping the slate clean, it’s giving us a completely new heart and a new identity. We may still have to deal with the consequences of our old life but we will handle those in the light of the Word of God. Will it be hard? Absolutely! But Romans 8 has our answer.
” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37 NIV
Not only does God help us but he gives us a completely new life in Him.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you, I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 NIV
So, when you have an old friend tell you, you are the same, now you have scriptures to back you up. Studying is the key to your new life. How will you know what kind of life God has given you if you don’t get into his word and study.
” Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV
Let’s look in Psalms and take a look at David, he was king of Israel during this time. After his adultery with Bathsheba, he cried out to God for forgiveness. In Pslams 51 he didn’t want physical healing he was crying out for a clean heart and a renewed spirit. He knew the greatest healing was inward.
“create in me a pure heart, oh God and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” Psalms 51:10-12 NIV
Healing Relationships
Sin breaks relationships with God with others and even with ourselves. Salvation restores those relationships.
- With God we are reconciled to Him
- “Even when we were God’s enemies, he made peace with us, because his Son died for us. Yet something even greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, we will be saved by the life of His Son. ” Romans 5:10 CEV
- With others: We are empowered to forgive and love as Christ loved us.
- “And have clothed yourselves with the new (spiritual self) which is (ever in the process of being) renewed and remolded into (fuller and more perfect knowledge upon) knowledge after the image (the likeness) of Him who created it.” Colossians 3:10 AMPC
- With ourselves: God’s spirit brings healing to our minds, emotions, and our identity.
Healing That Lasts for Eternity
As we have said before Salvation brings eternal healing. A promise that sin, sickness, pain, and death will never touch us again once in God’s presence.
” God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and morning) nor grief nor pain any more. For the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away. And he who is seated on the throne said, See! I have made all things new.” Revelations 21:4-5 AMPC
Why does this matter for us? If God never healed another physical body in this life, the healing of salvation would still be the greatest miracle. Every physical healing we experience in this life is just a signpost pointing us to the greater eternal healing we have in Christ. So our ultimate hope is not in temporary recovery but in eternal redemption.
Remember this: Salvation is the greatest healing gift because it restores what was broken and lost when sin entered the world our relationship with God. Once our relationship with God is restored through salvation that relationship brings forgiveness, a new life and eternal hope.
